About Us
Fact Sheet
- The Sexual Assault Center (SAC), started in 1978, is the only place in Middle Tennessee that specializes in treatment for sexual assault victims. Our counselors are specially certified and trained in these areas and work with more than 700 victims a year; half of these are children. With treatment, we are able to successfully restore emotional health to children and adults, both male and female. We take a holistic approach of working with the entire family. Beyond individual treatment, we have group therapy sessions for children, teens, men, women, and families of survivors.
- We have education programs that support the prevention of sexual abuse. We train teachers and guidance counselors for the “Safe @ Last” self-protection classes in elementary schools in Davidson and Williamson and surrounding counties, and in the Catholic Diocese schools and provide materials for 100,000+ students a year. A new program for junior and high school students called “Be. Promoting Healthy Relationships” was begun in 2007.
- The Center presents Community Workshops, which provide speakers and programs for a wide range of topics, such as date rape and sexual abuse prevention. These are appropriate for churches, civic groups, high school and college students, and corporate workplaces, and reach 2,000 individuals each year.
- Our fees are based on a sliding scale according to income. We are a TennCare provider and accept most health insurance policies. We also have grants that cover specific types of abuse victims. Most importantly, no one is turned away for lack of ability to pay.
